Jane first arrived at the Gombe National Park on April 2, 1957,at the age of 23 years old. She traveled by boat. When she got there she met lots of new people and had a wonderful time seeing Africa and embracing that native culture. When she went there, she met a man named Lois Leaky, a famous anthropologist. Leakey later hired her as a secretary seeing that Jane had the intelligence that he was looking for. Leakey thought that Jane had a proper temperament to endure long-term. isolation in the wild Leaky believed that a long-term study of the behavior of higher primates would yield important evolutionary information. He had a particular interest in chimpanzees, which is the second most intelligent primate.
